“There are some songs that are so powerful, upon listening they can break, and mend your heart at the same time.”
I think we all have those songs that make us pause and take inventory of our lives. The ones that make you drive around the block to finish the listen. The ones that resonate more than a little. And over the years these powerful songs seldom change, or lose their power over you. But even though they sting, there is something healing about someone else being in same place you may be, or have been.
Off the top of my head, I have three:
Take It To The Limit – The Eagles
Words from a guy, who never stops giving everything he has to things in his life he has never gotten quite right. AND they are all things that matter, including love. But he still will the next time, even if he knows the outcome will be the same. Powerful, emotional, tears me up sometimes. – “I was thinkin’ about a woman that loved me, that I never knew…” Insanely heartfelt and beyond honest.
Startin’ With Me – Jake Owen
I have not been to the places Jake has in this song directly, but I have been to crossroads in life where you figure out you are the common denominator, and you have to take responsibility. – “If only I’d of known, later on down the road, I’d look back and not like what I see, I’d change a lot of things…..Startin’ With Me.” Great written line that takes guts to sing, and even more guts of digest.
Runnin’ On Empty – Jackson Brown
Again, a guy looking for life’s basic things, that seem just out of his grasp. “Runnin’ into the sun, I’m runnin’ behind” Where is he going really?
